Starbucks + Girlfriend = Starbucks Cup Flowers

Starbucks Cup Flowers

I admit I rarely go to Starbucks, I love Starbucks but I rarely treat myself to Starbucks.  One of my dearest friends Michelle told me she was taken me out for coffee Sunday.  It was wonderful we talked about life (husbands and kids), blogging and self promotion.  Michelle is a writer and understands the need to self promote and is a great wealth of information and encouragement.  We are neighbors and have know each other for over 10 years but like most things, life gets in the way of hanging out and talking.  After the week I had I so needed to get out of the house away from the kids and just talk to another (female) adult.  Two Grande Salty Carmel Hot Chocolates later we were ready to go.  I looked at Michelle and said, “Oh my god – I need your cups!  I can make the flowers out of Starbucks cups for Wonderful Wednesdays.”  Michelle looked at me like I had a hole in my head.  I explained that I had been watching web TV and one lady made flowers out of recycled Starbucks cup and I needed something to give to my daughter’s teachers on Wednesday.  Michelle laughed and said, “I can’t wait to see how they turn out.”

I am not going to do a huge post on how to make these because it is not my idea and Heidi Borchers did a fantastic tutorial on Cool2Craft.  When I saw this I immediately thought it was fantastic and I wanted to try it but when am I ever at Starbucks?  Almost never.  A beautiful Sunday afternoon, coffee with one of my dearest friends, helped me clear my head and gave me materials to create a wonderful thank you gift for my daughter’s teachers.  Mission Accomplished!  Pictures to follow (a little later) the upload feature was having issues this morning.

I made two flowers, one for each teacher, one cup was a little damp and it was easier to bend and shape than the dry one.  I also rolled the interior part of the rose like a ribbon rose twisting the paper as I went.  I also decoupaged pink tissue paper (Mod Podge) to the flowers it helped with the painting.

Finished flowers – I took a ton of progress photos but once again not my idea so I don’t feel right doing the tutorial.
Finished with the Beaded – Ribbon Bookmark wrapped around it!
