Since everyone in my family (except Jeff) is sick I figured this Tuesday would be about homemade or herbal remedies I use. Some work some I think are just psychological but work wonders (in my mind).
Netti Pot Solution:
I read somewhere that the Netti Pot is a shower for you sinuses. If you don’t have a Netti Pot or have never used one – GET ONE or do what I do I a bulb syringe to get the same results. Works wonderfully!
My solution:
1 cup of Distilled Water (or Purified Water)
1/8 tsp of table salt
Stir together until salt is dissolved in a jar. I put mine in a mason jar and then use a bulb syringe to squirt it in the nose. Gross yes, but well worth the grossness.
Ear Aches:
I was the kid who always got ear aches but never had tubes put in my ears. My mom swears by this (and so do I) a cotton ball with Vick’s Vapor rub on it. Put the cotton ball in the ear. The Vick’s helps relieve the pressure.
I also check to see if I have an ear infection by putting a couple drops of Peroxide in my ear (if you hear it bubble you have an ear infection). I have used lavender oil 3-5 drops per ear – smells good and help in pain relief.
Cough:
Honey – 1 TBSP taken by mouth. Works well especially if you are out of cough medicine (also you don’t have to worry about honey being recalled.) Very important NEVER GIVE HONEY TO CHILDREN UNDER 1.
Vick’s Vapor Rub – I love Vick’s Vapor Rub I rub it on the tummy and the back then send the Vick’s up person to bed. Don’t use on babies or children under 2.
Lavender Oil – When my son was a baby he caught a cold from my daughter. I rubbed the tummy and his back with lavender oil it worked just like Vick’s and helped him sleep (doesn’t have the chemicals Vick’s does).
Tea:
I drink my weight in tea when I am sick. I also add 1 shot of Apple Cider Vinegar to my tea when I am sick. I stick to herbal tea (ginger, lemon, chamomile) add honey, ACV and a lemon.
Soup:
Chicken Noodle Soup is a good one when you are sick. Here is a basic quick recipe:
2 Chicken Bouillon Cubes
8 Cups of water
2 carrots diced
2 celery stalks diced
1 medium onion diced
1 or 2 chicken breast cubed
1 – 2 cups of dried noodles (egg noodles work well)
Very easy throw everything in a pot and let it cook for about an hour or my favorite throw everything in Crock Pot turn on low for 8 hours or on high for 4 hours.
Well I hope these recipes will help everyone in your family feel better, now I am going to head back to my couch and sip some tea
Earache can be really annoying but i usually take some pain killers and antibiotics to manage it.’
