Who Are You Calling Crafty?

So my daughter is getting ready for Pre-K in a couple of weeks and one of the things I have been thinking about is how am I going to keep her lunch cool. We have one ice pack that Jeff takes to work everyday and when it starts to thaw it leaks blue goo. Personally, I prefer my food blue goo free, so it made me think: I wonder if I could find out how to make my own ice packs? I Googled it – Yes, you can and unlike the dispersant they used in the Gulf, this really is the same as dish soap (because it is dish soap.) The site I found made it really easy to make my own.  It also gave me a reason to pull out my vacuum sealer, I got for Christmas (I love that thing!)

I of course needed help making the ice pack and with design ideas, such as, what color and size the ice packs would be.  I was informed by my daughter that we needed to make: two small blue ones and a big green one.  Besides the fact my husband is going to ask what happened to all of our dish soap, I think he will be mighty please with our non-toxic ice packs that don’t leak blue goo.

The big one, I used a 1/2 cup of dish liquid and 4-6 drops of green food coloring and 2 small ones (which will be prefect for little boo-boos too!) I used a 1/4 cup of dish liquid and 5-9 drops of blue food coloring (my daughter loves blue!)  I put them in the Seal-a-Meal Bags and sealed them.  It does say you can use sandwich bags I would recommend getting the good ones if you use sandwich bags.
