The North Towners Guide to Trick or Treating

I grew up in a small town in Michigan (Escanaba) and lived on the north side of my town, hence the North Town. When I was younger we had the “10 Commandments of Trick or Treating” I am going to share our (the neighborhood I grew up with) list.

Always go with a buddy or a pack of kids. Even living in a small town we always had this rule – we never strayed from the “pack.”
Always plan your route to maximize time and candy.
Do not wear costumes that prevents movement. It impedes the rest of the pack to get the most out of their Halloween.
Never cut across the grass to the next house. It decreases the candy at the next house, always use the sidewalk. (This tip is also helpful if snow is on the ground – the sidewalks are shoveled.)
Always communicate with other Trick or Treaters on who has what candy. The map could have changed from years past.
If a person has candy you like always say, “I love…” They usually will throw in an extra piece.
If there are decorations always say, “Wow you have great decorations!” Once again to maximize candy.
Disposing of the wrappers in trash cans only. Do not throw wrappers in bag or on the street, mom will find it, if it not in the trash can.

Do not use plastic bags or buckets just use a pillow case (one with Glow in the Dark paint is acceptable). The plastic bags tend to rip with the weight of the candy.
