Part 5: Blog to Web 101 – Attaching Zip Files as Automatic Downloads

A question I get asked quite a bit – how did you get your Zip Files to download?  I admit it took me a while to figure this out, I knew it was possible but I couldn’t figure out how to do it even after Googling it, all the directions were missing several steps.

I finally just decided to mess around with it.  I set up a Google site over a year ago with grand implications that I would do all this stuff with it (laughing to myself not so much).  First you need a Site – I used Google Site (it is free).  I have my site set to Share to the World, I am not sure if this will work with any other settings.

What your Google Site will look like after you set it up.  I added a page just for Zip Files.
My Zip File Page –> Click Upload
Attach your Zip File and upload.
Another shot of the Upload Screen.
Right Click on the File –> Copy Link Location
In Blogger add your photo and Edit Link –> Paste the Link into the TO SELECT URL SHOULD THE LINK GO? –> hit OK
Check to see if the download works by clicking on the photo.  If this box shows up congrats your Zip File will Download.

In hindsight it should not have taken me this long to figure it out but I am glad I figured it out on my own.  If you want to see my Zip File Downloads in action, check out the FREEBIES on A.J.’s Digi Shoppe.  You can also copy and paste HTML code and add it to your Facebook Fan Page, if you add a FBML Tab Maker Application.  If you want to see that in action check out the A.J.’s Digi Shoppe Fan Page.
