Snow Days

I love the south if I didn’t I would have left many, many years ago.  I also miss snow, crazy as it seems but it really doesn’t feel like winter unless I see snow.  So when the news started with their crazy “Snow” coverage I was amused to say the least.  I have lived in the south for almost 16 years and I have seen snow fall here twice.  I was quite excited for the prospect of fluffy white snow coming from the sky.

As a precaution they did an early dismissal on Tuesday, cancelled school on Wednesday and Thursday.  First it was rain a lot of rain and the temperature dropped 20+ degrees in a matter of hours.  We had a lovely coat of freezing rain and ice covering most things.  I was quite disappointed there was no snow, a lot of sleet and ice but no snow.  I personally would have loved the snow opposed to the ice we got.

They did close several bridges around here and we were told to stay home.  I learned how to drive in a blizzard and in white out conditions but I was always told by my dad to stay home if there is ice.  I have put my car into the ditch because I hit black ice, so I know how scary and dangerous it is.

My city took precautions, the schools, government, banks, closed yesterday.  Some may say they took too many precautions but my response is if they didn’t we would be a laughing stock like Atlanta is right now.  I mean Atlanta is a horrible place to drive anyways and anything (a cloud in the sky, wind, rain) it turns into absolute chaos.  I know people who spent 5 hours in their car to go 30 miles.  One photo I saw only needed Rick Grimms on a horse to complete the eeriness of everything.  I do think keeping the kids home on Thursday was a tad of an overkill but there were several bridges that were still ice rinks so it was for safety.

So here are some of my photos from Snow/Ice Storm 2014:
