BELIEVE… My First Mixed Media Piece

So I decided to do a piece revolving around my word for 2011.  The one criteria I had was it had to be a mixed media piece.  I wanted to challenge myself because I don’t do mixed media (I’m a one media at a time type of gal – lol).  So I played with new mediums and had fun with it.  I am keeping it for myself and it will hang where I can see it.  I even have a frame with glass (very rare in my house) all ready to go.  So here are some pictures of the works in progress and the finished unframed still wet piece.

Stamp I created on the background of homemade alcohol ink and sprayed with homemade glimmer mist.  I then used Glossy Accents on the compass and Knock Off Stickles for the glitter.

I then added amber colored seed beads along each side and I metal stamped a tea candle tin and colored it copper with a paint pen.

I decided I didn’t like the background and I cut everything out and glued it onto a piece of homemade paper.  The top is an egg shell mosaic spelling the word BELIEVE – I enhanced it with the knock off Stickles.  The left side has a piece of lace that I colored with the purple alcohol ink then embellished it with a gold leaf pen, knock off Stickles and the Shrink It Chinese Symbol for Believe.  The right side was blue tissue paper glued with Matte Medium (that I dropped on my desk it was a huge mess.  I then embossed the raised wrinkles with an iridescent embossing powder.  I also put the gold embossed stamped image on top of the blue tissue paper.  The bottom is the embossed trees.  I also outlined each section with beads and added the wood embellishment (craft stick) that also says BELIEVE.

I am pretty happy with my first mixed media piece I will scan it in after everything dries to get a better photo of it.Smile
