As my last blog post stated our Governor decided to start reopening Georgia. There was no scientific evidence to support this action. Considering we have only tested 1% of our population, I feel this is way too soon. Yes, I want to go back to my job and my life outside of my house as much as anyone but I don’t want to get sick or worse pass it onto someone else.
I went to Walmart to pick up a prescription two days ago (and some other items I needed). I was shocked how many people didn’t have masks on and no one was social distancing. It rattled me and I ended up only getting have the items on my list. I checked out at the pharmacy and the lady who checked me out thanked me for wearing a mask and taking this seriously. I was stunned, how are people not taking this seriously? See and that is what worries me. The same people who aren’t taking this seriously are the same people who will travel, stay at my hotel, and infect all of us because it was a little cough or a headache.
I don’t think it is time to open everything, I feel this is a huge mistake. A mistake we (the citizens of Georgia) will be dealing with for many years. I do think there is going to be a second wave of this virus. Like the 1918 Flu Pandemic, the second wave will kill far more people. I think opening a state before the proper testing is in place is completely irresponsible. I hope most people will take this seriously and still stay home. Sadly, I don’t think that will happen.
People have lost their ever loving minds. Most days the people who are protesting to go back to work, are the same people who complain they have to work and want to stay home. They aren’t happy unless they are complaining about something. I want people to use common sense, however it isn’t that common these days.
As for the President saying we should ingest or inject disinfectants. WHAT?!?!?!?! I don’t give a damn if you were being sarcastic (I don’t think you were), don’t tell people that because they will believe you. The fact I had to have a conversation with my kids not to do this is ridiculous. Actually they both looked at me like I had four heads and then said, “What idiot would even suggest something like that?”
I replied, “The President did.”
They did not believe me so I played the clip for them. Child #1 replied, “OMG! He is a moron.”
Booga replied, “Um don’t think he understands what that will do to a person.”
I told them both it is my job as a parent to ensure they know this is wrong and very bad for you. They nodded and continued their discussion on how could anyone think this would work or why would you even say that. I try really hard not to expose them to news stories, primarily because it causes anxiety for Child #1 and they are not really into it. When I was their age, I loved the news watched it every night. Even when I was in college and up until the hubs left the news business, I watched it nightly. Now I listen to Up First by NPR every morning and that is it. I get most of my news from Facebook.
Well stay safe everyone, wash your hands, wear a mask and social distance.
